Batlab is a research group in the Institute of Biology at the University of Southern Denmark (SDU). We study the sensory physiology and behavioral ecology of bats with special focus on how they use and produce sound to navigate, find food, avoid predators and communicate. Primary areas of investigation include biosonar, sound production, beharioural and sensing strategies in Chiroptera, and hearing and ultrasound detection in moths. We pursue an integrative biology approach to experiments at an organismal level with emphasis on how animals work in an evolutionary context.

Biosonar of bats is an inspiration for many stories, movies, games and yes they are the origins of different cultural myths like vampires. They fascinate us even today, which is proven by the fact that we can play bat-themed slots in online casinos for real money.
